The Art of Breath Magic
Understanding the fundamental force that powers all elemental magic
The Breath of Life
In the World of Shikari, breath is far more than mere survival—it is the fundamental connection between the conscious mind and the elemental forces that shape reality. Every inhale draws in not just air, but threads of the Weave itself. Every exhale releases intention into the world, transforming thought into manifestation.
This understanding forms the cornerstone of all magical practice in Shikari. Unlike other magical systems that rely on external components or lengthy rituals, breath magic is always available, as intimate as one's own heartbeat, as powerful as one's own will.
"Magic is not something you do to the world—it is something you do with the world. The breath is the bridge between intention and reality, between the self and the infinite."
The Three Phases of Breath Magic
1. The Inhale - Drawing the Weave
The first phase involves consciously drawing in elemental threads through breath. Practitioners learn to sense which elemental energies are available in their environment and deliberately invite them into their being. This requires both physical awareness and spiritual sensitivity.
2. The Hold - Weaving Intention
During the pause between inhale and exhale, the practitioner weaves their intention with the drawn elemental forces. This is where training and skill matter most—the ability to hold complex patterns in mind while maintaining the delicate balance of elemental energies within oneself.
3. The Exhale - Releasing Power
The final phase releases the woven magic into the world. The quality of the exhale— whether gentle or forceful, quick or slow—shapes how the magic manifests. Master practitioners can create effects ranging from subtle influences to dramatic transformations, all through the controlled release of breath.
Elemental Affinities in Breath Work
While all practitioners can work with any elemental thread, each person naturally resonates with certain elements more strongly. This affinity determines not only which of the Seven Orders they typically join, but also the flavor and strength of their magical practice. Each affinity has its own breath signature — a rhythm, temperature, and quality that the body learns first and the Weave answers to.
Fire Breath
Hot, kindling breaths that quicken the heart and feed the inner flame. Practitioners use it to ignite passion, drive transformation, and forge courage in moments of resistance.

Slow, washing breaths that move like the tide. Used to carry healing through the body, hold emotional currents steady, and let persistence outlast resistance.
Visit the Water OrderMoon Breath
Cyclical, hushed breathing tuned to lunar phases. Opens intuition, eases shadow-work, and steadies the mind for dream-walking and quiet counsel under starlight.
Visit the Moon OrderWind Breath
Variable, adaptive breathing that changes with circumstance. Carries messages, bridges distances, and lets the practitioner shift perspective as easily as the air shifts direction.
Visit the Wind OrderEarth Breath
Deep, slow breathing rooted in the diaphragm. Grounds energy, anchors intention, and creates weaves built to last — foundations, wards, and structures that endure.
Visit the Earth OrderSun Breath
Bright, generous breaths drawn at dawn that radiate warmth and clarity outward. Used to illuminate truth, lift the spirits of others, and lead from a place of hope rather than fear.
Visit the Sun OrderStars Breath
Quiet, expansive breathing drawn under the night sky. Stretches awareness beyond the immediate, opens cosmic perspective, and steadies the mind for vision-work and long sight.
Visit the Stars OrderMost Weavers carry one strong affinity and a softer second. Rare practitioners resonate across three or more — a gift that opens unusual paths, but rarely a comfortable one.
Learning and Mastery
Every child in Shikari learns basic breath awareness, but true magical practice requires years of dedicated study. Most practitioners spend their entire lives perfecting their connection to their primary element while developing secondary abilities with others.
The most accomplished Breath Weavers can work with multiple elemental threads simultaneously, creating complex magical effects that blur the lines between Orders. However, such mastery comes at great personal cost and requires exceptional mental discipline.
The Dragon's Teaching
Ancient dragons were the first to understand that breath and magic were inseparable. Their massive lungs and long lifespans allowed them to develop breathing techniques of incredible complexity and power.
When dragons shared their knowledge with younger races, they emphasized that breath magic is not about controlling the elements—it is about joining the cosmic conversation that all living things participate in with every breath they take.
